Why this lesson
Staying close to grandchildren and far-away family is a daily wish for many of us. AI is a calm, patient helper that can turn a few thoughts into a warm message — without making you feel like you must learn a whole new computer.
Three plain-English ways AI helps
- Write a short note when the words are stuck. Tell the AI what you want to say and who it is for, and it will draft a message you can edit.
- Translate a message your family member sent in another language. Paste it in, ask 'what does this say in English,' and read the answer.
- Turn a voice memo into typed words. Speak as if you are leaving a phone message; the AI types it out for you.
Editing is the most important step
AI gives you a draft, never a final letter. Read it out loud. Change anything that sounds too formal or too modern. The result should sound like you on a good day.
Key terms in this lesson
The big idea: AI is a thinking partner that helps the words come out. The love in the message is yours.
