A prompt stack is a sequence of prompts where each one builds on the last. For complex things like writing a paper, you don't ask once — you stack: outline, then sections, then edit.
Some examples
- Step 1: 'Make me an outline.' Step 2: 'Write section 1.' Step 3: 'Now write section 2 in the same voice.'
- Step 1: 'Brainstorm 20 ideas.' Step 2: 'Pick the top 3.' Step 3: 'Develop the winner.'

The pattern that wins: dump all your context first (paste the doc, the code, the data) and put your actual question at the very bottom. The opposite — question first, context last — measurably loses.

Every message in a chat reloads the entire conversation as input — so a 50-message thread costs 50x more per reply than message 1. Worse, the model can get confused by old, no-longer-relevant context. New task = new chat.

- You finished helping Claude with a Python bug. Now you want to write an email. Start a new chat.
- Your debugging convo has 30 messages. Open a fresh chat and paste only the latest code.
- ChatGPT's getting weirdly fixated on something from 20 messages ago — that's context poisoning. Reset.
- You're working on the same codebase all week — keep one project chat, but start new ones per feature.
