Agents You Already Use
You have already used agents — Alexa, Siri, Google Assistant. The new ones are just much smarter.
'Alexa, set a timer' is an agent action. 'Hey Siri, book a hair appointment for Tuesday' (in newer iPhones) is a more complex agent action.
Three categories of agents you know
- Voice assistants (Alexa, Siri, Google)
- Game NPCs that act on their own
- Recommendation engines (YouTube, TikTok)
Key terms in this lesson
The big idea: Agents are not new — but the new ones can do MUCH more than their predecessors.
Practice this safely
Try this with a school, hobby, or family example where the stakes are low. Use the AI output as a draft you can question, not as the final answer.
- 1Ask AI to explain voice assistant in plain language, then underline anything that sounds uncertain or too broad.
- 2Give it one detail from "Agents You Already Use" and ask for two possible next steps plus one reason each step might be wrong.
- 3Check NPC against a trusted source, teacher, adult, expert, or original document before you use it.
