Claude Code bets on the terminal. Codex CLI is OpenAI's answer in the same shape. Cursor bets on the editor as the agent's home. Aider bets on a minimal git-native CLI you stitch into any workflow. None of them are 'right' — they're optimized for different mental models of how software actually gets built.
