Section 1
Community college is for everyone
Community colleges accept almost any student, cost much less than four-year colleges, and are full of ESL learners. AI is a strong study partner — but only when you use it within the rules.
Read the syllabus first
AI for studying — the legal way
- Ask AI to explain a concept after you read the textbook
- Ask AI to make practice quiz questions for you
- Ask AI to check your essay for grammar (this is often allowed)
- Ask AI to compare your draft to the assignment rubric
- Ask AI to summarize a long article into 5 bullet points
Academic integrity — what is NOT okay
- Pasting an exam question and submitting AI's answer as yours
- Having AI write your essay from scratch
- Using AI on a quiz or test that says "no AI"
- Translating an assignment into your home language to AI, then submitting AI's translated answer
Words to know
- syllabus — the class plan with all due dates
- rubric — how the professor will grade
- academic integrity — being honest in school
- plagiarism — using someone else's work as your own
- office hours — when you can meet the professor for help
The big idea: AI is a study partner. The grade is yours to earn — and your name on the paper means YOU did it.
