AI and Younger Siblings: Helping Them Use AI Safely
You're probably the family AI expert — that means you're the right person to keep your little siblings safe.

The big idea
Most chatbots have age limits (13+ on ChatGPT, 13+ on most). Younger siblings sneak in with Mom's email. You can quietly steer them to kid-safe tools (Khan Kids, Khanmigo, KidGPT) and show them what to avoid. You're the older sibling who can prevent the disaster — that's actual power.
Some examples
- ChatGPT Terms of Service: 13+, with parental consent under 18.
- Khanmigo: built for kids by Khan Academy.
- Show them: don't share full name, address, school.
- Watch for the My AI in Snapchat — kids use it without realizing.
Try it!
Find one sibling under 13. Ask what AI tools they've tried. Show them Khanmigo or one kid-safe alternative. Modeling matters.

Practice this safely
Try this with a school, hobby, or family example where the stakes are low. Use the AI output as a draft you can question, not as the final answer.
- 1Ask AI to explain siblings in plain language, then underline anything that sounds uncertain or too broad.
- 2Give it one detail from "AI and Younger Siblings: Helping Them Use AI Safely" and ask for two possible next steps plus one reason each step might be wrong.
- 3Check child safety against a trusted source, teacher, adult, expert, or original document before you use it.
