What recruiters actually do
A recruiter at 9:14am Tuesday types your old job title plus 'AI' into LinkedIn search. If your profile doesn't include both terms in the headline or the about section, you don't exist for that search. This is mechanical, not philosophical. Fix it.
The headline template
The about section, in three paragraphs
- 1Paragraph 1: who you have been (your domain depth, in 2-3 sentences).
- 2Paragraph 2: what you are learning right now (the AI angle — be specific about tools and projects).
- 3Paragraph 3: who you're trying to talk to (recruiters, hiring managers in X kind of company, founders building Y). Make the ask concrete.
Experience entries — keep your old jobs, add an AI footer
Don't delete your old experience to look more current. The 18 years are the moat. Instead, add a one-line footer to your most recent role: 'In 2025-2026, started using [tool] to [outcome] and trained the team on [process].' This signals you didn't sit still.
Key terms in this lesson
The big idea: LinkedIn is a search index, not a memoir. Optimize for what a recruiter types — then make sure the page that loads is honest.
