Section 1
The pivot you don't have to make
Most pivot conversations assume you want a new role. Plenty of 50-year-olds don't. They want to keep doing what they're doing for another 10-15 years and retire well. AI is still relevant — but the goal is role hardening, not transition.
Three moves to harden a role
- 1Become the AI literate one in your team. Not because you want a new role, but because that person rarely gets cut.
- 2Use AI to ship 1.5x your old output without telling anyone how — let your numbers tell the story.
- 3Document the parts of your job that depend on judgment and relationships. Those are the AI-resistant parts. Make sure your manager sees them clearly.

Compare the options

| Mid-level copywriter | Medium | Brand voice steward + AI editor |
| Bookkeeper | Medium | AI-augmented controller for SMB clients |
| Field service technician | Low | AR-augmented field tech with AI-pulled docs |
