Why a book club, why AI
Book clubs are some of the best things older adults do — they keep the brain sharp, the calendar full, and friendships warm. AI can do every behind-the-scenes task so the host gets to enjoy the meeting.
How AI helps the host
- 'Suggest a 12-month reading list for a book club of 8 readers in their 70s. Mix fiction, memoir, and one short biography. Avoid books over 400 pages.'
- 'For our book this month, write 8 discussion questions that go beyond plot — include questions about voice, setting, and the year the book was written.'
- 'Suggest a short 5-minute introduction I can read at the start of the meeting about the author's life.'
- 'Draft a friendly reminder email for the meeting next Thursday.'
Run the meeting like always
AI does the prep. The conversation is still humans across a coffee table — that part has not changed in 100 years.
Key terms in this lesson
The big idea: AI does the secretarial work; you do the talking. That has always been the best use of any helper.
