AI and Talking to a Medicine Helper
Some apps use AI to answer questions about feeling sick.

The big idea
Some apps and websites use AI to answer simple health questions, like 'What is a cold?' But AI is NOT a doctor. If you feel really sick or hurt, always tell a grown-up first. They'll decide if you need to see a real doctor.
Some examples
- AI can explain what 'fever' means.
- AI can NOT tell you which medicine to take.
- AI can suggest, 'You should ask a doctor about this.'
- AI can NOT replace your real doctor — ever.
Try it!
Ask a grown-up: 'Who do we call if I get really sick?' Knowing the answer ahead of time is super smart.
Practice this safely
Try this with a low-stakes example and a trusted adult nearby. The goal is to notice how AI talks about app, not to let it make the decision for you.
- 1Ask AI to explain app in plain language, then underline anything that sounds uncertain or too broad.
- 2Give it one detail from "AI and Talking to a Medicine Helper" and ask for two possible next steps plus one reason each step might be wrong.
- 3Check questions against a trusted source, teacher, adult, expert, or original document before you use it.
