AI and counting heart beats with a watch
Smart watches use AI to count heartbeats and spot weird patterns.
Adults & Professionals · AI in Healthcare · ~7 min read
The big idea
A smart watch has a tiny green light on the back that can count your heartbeats. AI looks at the pattern and notices if your heart is beating weird. It tells the grown-up to check with a doctor.
Some examples
- Watch counts beats during gym class
- AI notices a strange heart pattern
- Watch sends a 'maybe see a doctor' alert
- Doctors make the actual diagnosis
Try it!
Put two fingers on your wrist. Count beats for 10 seconds, then multiply by 6. That's your heart rate — same thing the watch measures.

- 1Ask AI to explain heart in plain language, then underline anything that sounds uncertain or too broad.
- 2Give it one detail from "AI and counting heart beats with a watch" and ask for two possible next steps plus one reason each step might be wrong.
- 3Check watches against a trusted source, teacher, adult, expert, or original document before you use it.
