The big idea
Just like grown-ups use computers, calculators, and phones at work, many use AI too. Doctors, teachers, designers, builders, and writers all use AI to do parts of their job faster — but the human still makes the big decisions.
Some examples
- A doctor uses AI to help spot something on an X-ray.
- A teacher uses AI to make a fun worksheet.
- A chef uses AI to think of new recipes.
- A reporter uses AI to summarize a long news article.
Try it!
Ask a grown-up in your life if they use AI at work. If yes, ask them how. If not, guess together how AI might help with their job.
Practice this safely
Try this with a low-stakes example and a trusted adult nearby. The goal is to notice how AI talks about jobs, not to let it make the decision for you.
- 1Ask AI to explain jobs in plain language, then underline anything that sounds uncertain or too broad.
- 2Give it one detail from "AI and Jobs People Do with It" and ask for two possible next steps plus one reason each step might be wrong.
- 3Check tools against a trusted source, teacher, adult, expert, or original document before you use it.
