How to do it well
Good creative writing with AI follows a pattern. First, tell the AI exactly what you want and what you have to work with. Then read what it gives you carefully. If something looks off, ask it to fix that one thing. You are the boss — the AI is the helper.
A simple step-by-step
- 1Tell the AI your character, where the story happens, and the problem.
- 2Ask for 3 different opening sentences and pick your favorite.
- 3Write the next paragraph YOURSELF, then ask for feedback.
- 4Ask for 'one thing to try next' — not a full rewrite.
- 5Keep a saved file of YOUR words separate from the AI's words.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Letting the AI write the whole story — that's the AI's story, not yours.
- Copying AI text and saying you wrote it.
- Asking for 'more' instead of asking for 'better'.
- Forgetting the original idea after 5 rewrites.
Why this is a real skill
Editors, screenwriters, and game writers all use feedback loops. Drafting yourself, then asking for one improvement, is the real writer's loop — not 'AI, write a story.'
