Should You Let AI Make Decisions For You? (Mostly No.)
AI can suggest. AI can compare. But you should make actual decisions yourself. Here is why.

The big idea
AI can give you info to decide with. But it should not make YOUR decisions for you. Your taste, your values, your life — those are yours to choose with.
Some examples
- AI can list 10 movies you might like. YOU pick which one to watch.
- AI can compare 3 sports teams. YOU pick which to root for.
- AI can suggest 5 hobbies. YOU pick which one to try.
- AI can list pros and cons of joining a club. YOU decide if you want to.
Try it!
Next time you have to decide something, ask AI to list options and trade-offs — but make the actual choice yourself. Notice how it feels to decide consciously.

Practice this safely
Try this with a low-stakes example and a trusted adult nearby. The goal is to notice how AI talks about decision-making, not to let it make the decision for you.
- 1Ask AI to explain decision-making in plain language, then underline anything that sounds uncertain or too broad.
- 2Give it one detail from "Should You Let AI Make Decisions For You? (Mostly No.)" and ask for two possible next steps plus one reason each step might be wrong.
- 3Check agency against a trusted source, teacher, adult, expert, or original document before you use it.
