The big idea
Some AI tools have age rules. They're there to keep kids safe. Pretending to be older lets you see things that might scare or trick you.
Some examples
- Don't say you're 18 to use a grown-up tool.
- Don't lie about your birthday in an app.
- Don't make a fake account.
- Tell a grown-up if a friend is doing this.
Try it!
Check the age rule for any app you use. Make sure you're old enough.
Age rules exist to protect you — really
Some websites and AI tools ask for your birthday before you can use them. If you're under 13, some features might be turned off. That can feel frustrating — especially if a friend says they already got in by saying they were 18. But those rules exist for a good reason: some content isn't meant for kids. When AI tools don't have age restrictions, they might share things that are scary, confusing, or just not right for where you are in life. Pretending to be older bypasses the protections that were put there for you. It's like hopping a fence that has a 'Stay Out' sign — sure, you might get in, but you could also find something dangerous on the other side. Being the age you actually are is honest. And honestly, your curiosity will still be there when you're older — you don't have to rush it.
- If an AI app asks your age and you're under the limit, respect that boundary.
- Don't help a friend make a fake account to bypass age rules.
- If a friend is doing this, tell a trusted adult — you're looking out for them.
- There are plenty of safe, fun AI tools made specifically for kids your age.
