Be Careful Sharing Photos With AI: They Might Stick Around
When you upload a photo to AI, where does it go? Sometimes it stays on the company's computers forever. Be careful what you upload.
Explorers · Safety & Governance · ~3 min read
The big idea
When you share a photo with AI (to edit it, identify what is in it, or use it for something cool), that photo might be saved by the company. Forever. Even if you delete the chat.
Some examples
- A photo of your face → could be used to train future AI to recognize faces.
- A photo of your family → could end up in a database somewhere.
- A photo of where you live → could give away your address.
- A photo of your friends → THEY did not give permission.
Try it!
Look at the privacy settings of one AI app you use (with a grown-up). See if you can find what it does with your uploads. Many apps make this hard to find — that is itself a clue.
