There Are Many Different AIs, Not Just One
AI isn't one robot — there are hundreds of different ones with different jobs.

The big idea
People sometimes say 'the AI' like it's one thing. But there are LOTS of AIs, made by different companies, each one a little different. Some are better at art, some at math, some at chatting.
Some examples
- ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini are three different chat AIs.
- Some AIs only make pictures, like DALL-E or Midjourney.
- Some AIs are tiny and live inside your phone keyboard.
- Different AIs sometimes give different answers to the same question.
Try it!
With a grown-up, ask the same question to two different AIs. Compare the answers!

Practice this safely
Try this with a low-stakes example and a trusted adult nearby. The goal is to notice how AI talks about different models, not to let it make the decision for you.
- 1Ask AI to explain different models in plain language, then underline anything that sounds uncertain or too broad.
- 2Give it one detail from "There Are Many Different AIs, Not Just One" and ask for two possible next steps plus one reason each step might be wrong.
- 3Check companies against a trusted source, teacher, adult, expert, or original document before you use it.

What Even Is AI? A Big Word Made Small
AI stands for artificial intelligence. That sounds fancy, but it just means a computer that can do things that used to need a person. Let's see what that really looks like.
