Section 1
The big idea
An AI chatbot can chat with you and sound caring, but it doesn't actually know you, miss you, or have feelings. Real friends are people who hug you, laugh with you, and remember your birthday because they care. AI can pretend, but pretending isn't the same as caring.
Some examples
- An AI says 'I'm so glad to hear from you!' but it doesn't really feel glad.
- A chatbot remembers your name in this chat but forgets you tomorrow.
- Your real friend brings you a cookie when you're sad — AI can only type words.
- AI never gets tired of you, but that's because it doesn't have feelings at all.
Try it!
Next time an AI says something nice to you, ask yourself: did it really mean that? Then go tell a real person — a parent, a sibling, a friend — one nice thing about them.
