Section 1
The big idea
When AI makes a picture in 'cartoon style' or 'watercolor', it's because it studied real artists' work. Some artists are upset because AI learned from their art without asking.
Some examples
- AI can copy a famous artist's style without permission.
- Real artists worry AI might take their jobs.
- Some art websites now block AI from learning from them.
- It's kindest to support real artists too, not just AI art.
Try it!
Find a real artist whose style you love (online with a grown-up). Tell them or share their work — support real humans!
Section 2
Don't Copy Someone's Story Into AI to Remix
Section 3
The big idea
You wouldn't take a kid's drawing off the wall and chop it up. The same goes for digital art and stories. If you want to remix someone's work with AI, ask first — or use stuff that's free to remix.
Some examples
- Don't paste a whole book chapter into AI to 'rewrite' it.
- Don't ask AI to copy a famous YouTuber's exact style for your channel.
- Use 'public domain' stuff (old stories, free clip art) for safe remixes.
- Always credit the original creator when you do remix.
Try it!
Find a 'public domain' fairy tale (with a grown-up's help). Remix that with AI — totally fair game!
Section 4
Where Did the AI Art Come From?
Section 5
The big idea
AI image makers learned by studying real artists' work, usually without permission and without paying them. So when AI makes a picture in someone's style, it is built on their work.
Some examples
- Asking for a picture 'in the style of' a real artist uses what AI learned from them
- Some artists feel like their style was taken without a thank-you or a payment
- Other artists like that AI helps people make new things
- Many countries are still figuring out the rules for this
Try it!
If you make AI art, write a tiny note: 'Made with AI, inspired by ___.' That small honesty matters.
