What to Do When AI Catches Your Mistake
It's OK if AI corrects you — that's how you grow!
Explorers · Ethics & Society · ~3 min read
The big idea
Sometimes you'll tell AI something and AI will say 'actually, that's not quite right.' It's OK! Even cool. Smart people are happy to learn they were wrong — that's how they got smart.
Some examples
- AI: 'Actually, the moon orbits Earth, not the Sun.' Cool, learned something!
- AI: 'I think you mixed up two countries.' Thanks, fixed!
- Don't argue with AI just to argue — check who's right.
- Sometimes YOU are right and AI is wrong. Trust the source!
Try it!
Tell AI a fact you're not 100% sure about. If AI corrects you, look it up to see who's right!
Practice this safely
Try this with a low-stakes example and a trusted adult nearby. The goal is to notice how AI talks about humility, not to let it make the decision for you.
- 1Ask AI to explain humility in plain language, then underline anything that sounds uncertain or too broad.
- 2Give it one detail from "What to Do When AI Catches Your Mistake" and ask for two possible next steps plus one reason each step might be wrong.
- 3Check growth against a trusted source, teacher, adult, expert, or original document before you use it.
