The big idea
Online communities work when most people are good citizens. AI gives you new tools — to help OR to harm. Choose to help.
Some examples
- Use AI to help correct misinformation politely.
- Use AI to support smaller creators (write thoughtful comments).
- Use AI to brainstorm community-building activities.
- Do NOT use AI to harass, fake, or mislead.
Try it!
Use AI to help you write one supportive message to someone online today. Notice how it feels.
What good citizens do when they see something wrong online
Good online citizens don't just avoid doing bad things — they also do something when they see bad things happening to others. If you see someone being harassed online, you have a few choices. You can report it to the platform. You can reach out privately to the person being targeted and let them know you see what's happening and it's not okay. You can refuse to share or like the harmful content, which stops it from spreading further. None of these require being brave in a big dramatic way. Small, quiet actions by lots of good people are what actually keep online communities healthier. AI can help you write supportive messages, find the right reporting page, or draft a calm response to misinformation. The key is choosing to use it for building people up rather than tearing them down.
- Report harmful content using platform tools — you don't have to say anything publicly
- Send a private supportive message to someone being targeted
- Don't share, like, or comment on content that is hurtful or misleading
- Use AI to help you find kind, accurate words when you want to speak up
