AI as a Helper, Not a Boss
AI works for you. You are in charge. AI can help, suggest, and explain — but the decisions should still be yours.
If you find yourself doing what AI tells you without thinking, that is a sign to slow down.
Three reminders
- You can always say no to AI
- Your judgment matters
- AI is the helper; you are the boss
Key terms in this lesson
The big idea: AI is a helper. YOU are still in charge of your life and your choices.
Practice this safely
Try this with a low-stakes example and a trusted adult nearby. The goal is to notice how AI talks about agency, not to let it make the decision for you.
- 1Ask AI to explain agency in plain language, then underline anything that sounds uncertain or too broad.
- 2Give it one detail from "AI as a Helper, Not a Boss" and ask for two possible next steps plus one reason each step might be wrong.
- 3Check autonomy against a trusted source, teacher, adult, expert, or original document before you use it.
