Do Not Tell AI Your Passwords
Never give AI your password — even if it asks. Real services that need your password do not ask through AI chats.
If something asks for your password during an AI conversation, it is almost always a scam.
Three reasons to keep passwords private
- AI saves what you type
- Other people might see your conversations
- Scammers can ask for things while pretending to be helpful AI
The big idea: Passwords go to the actual website, not to AI chats. Anyone asking for it through chat is suspicious.
Practice this safely
Try this with a low-stakes example and a trusted adult nearby. The goal is to notice how AI talks about password, not to let it make the decision for you.
- 1Ask AI to explain password in plain language, then underline anything that sounds uncertain or too broad.
- 2Give it one detail from "Do Not Tell AI Your Passwords" and ask for two possible next steps plus one reason each step might be wrong.
- 3Check PII against a trusted source, teacher, adult, expert, or original document before you use it.
